DAYS before the major launch of Honor’s X9a 5G, social media was filled with videos of the new smartphone being thrown down on the floor, hurled from a mezzanine, and dropped from heights of up to 20 feet.

A well-coordinated demolition job was to move into a central location, where Honor continued this obsession to wreck the X9a 5G extended into what may be the biggest gathering of technology editors and content creators. The event saw the phone subjected to various fits of abuse–including being shot at with a toy gun, a paired drop tests where one participant has to throw while the other one catches. Missing the catch and the phone dropping not on a carpet but on the hard granite floor of Taal Vista Lodge in Tagaytay where the event was held.

In every effort to destroy the Honor X9a 5G survived, intact. In one last-ditch attempt, a boisterous crowd placed the X9a 5G under the wheels of a Mercedes Benz and proceeded to run over it, its OLED curved screen side up. As expected the phone beat the car and came out unscathed. The same phone was used for a selfie in front of the majestic Taal, its super triple camera still accurately capturing the feisty volcano in all its glory in crisp and vivid colors.

“To see is to believe, that’s why we came up with this launch that really puts HONOR X9a 5G’s toughness to the test. Our guests have seen first-hand how durable our new phone is and we are very confident that the activities we laid out for have showcased the top-of-the-line performance of HONOR X9a 5G,” Stephen Cheng, Honor Philippines Vice President for Marketing said.

The trials didn’t end for the X9a 5G. Since it was an overnight activity it was rumored that some guests sat by the cabana viewing the volcano and chatted for hours, this time challenging its battery life. The phone claims to have a 2-day battery life. Most testers felt were both amazed and frustrated that the phone’s ultra-large 5100mAh battery kept it working.

“It is not every day that a smartphone maker comes out and asks you to break its phone,” Manila Times IT reporter Ira James Garcia narrated. “In the case of Honor, they encouraged the media to test the phone beyond its limits. Amazing.”

The phone’s 120Hz, 6.67-inch display has a screen-to-body ratio of 93 percent–very impressive even in this day of wide screens that can only go up to 91 percent of their phone’s width. This large screen guarantees an immersive viewing experience any kind of content.

The Honor X9a 5G is the thinnest and lightest smartphone to feature a battery larger than 5000mAh. With just 30 minutes of charging, the X9a 5G delivers 12.5 hours of video streaming, sparing users from having to worry about their battery.

“I think it’s almost perfect for what I’m looking for in a phone: snappy, long battery life, and it has a high refresh rate screen. I can easily overlook the shortcomings as they are very minor for my use case like the lack of headphone jack, etc.,” Ira James adds.

Designed for a style-conscious audience, it is available in two stunning colors: Titanium Silver and Emerald Green. The Honor X9a 5G is priced at P16,990 and comes with free Honor Earbuds X3 Lite worth P3,999. Starting from January 20 to February 3, the X9a 5G will be available to purchase via all Honor kiosks and partner online stores—Lazada, Shopee, Tiktok Shop, and Home Credit which offers the new phone for as low as P661 per month with insurance, P765 without insurance, and on a 0 percent interest installment payment.
