Ease of use, premium feel and a powerful suite to augment the camera these are the initial impressions of what could be a real “for-the-summer” smartphone
THE realme 12 5G formally enters the market on April 25 with a clear intent to make a statement, offering a mix of bold design, practical features, and a focus on user experience. Malaya Business Insight was invited to test a review unit of the new smartphone and here are our first impressions.
Here’s a detailed look at some of its most notable aspects based on early hands-on impressions:
The phone immediately grabs attention with its large, circular camera array–and its fancy green color–appropriately called “Woodland Green.”
Its design not only looks unique but also signals a potential emphasis on the phone’s photography capabilities. The design theme inspired by luxury watches. The faux leather back panel (made of silicone polymer) adds a touch of sophistication while providing excellent grip and resisting fingerprints.
While the back panel feels luxurious, and it boasts a slim 7.87mm profile and includes a standard layout with a 3.5mm audio jack.
The 6.67-inch AMOLED display on the realme 12 5G promises a vibrant and smooth viewing experience thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate and sharp FullHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels). While advertised peak brightness suggests 2000 nits, independent testing measured around 586 nits under typical conditions, with peak brightness reaching 1148 nits in specific scenarios. This should still be sufficient for comfortable outdoor use. Impressively, the display also reaches a very low minimum brightness of 2 nits, ideal for dark environments.
The realme 12 5G’s main camera offers video recording capabilities up to 4K@30fps, suggesting competent video features as well. However, a full evaluation of the camera’s performance under various lighting conditions and scenarios requires more in-depth testing. What’s promising is the versatile-looking camera software, which seems to pack a range of features and modes for photo and video enthusiasts.
One of the most appealing aspects of the realme 12 5G is its battery. Early indications are positive, promising a full day or even longer lifespan on typical use. This addresses a major concern of many smartphone users. If it lives up to expectations, the realme 12 5G could be a great companion for heavy streaming, gaming, and extended activities.
realme’s software experience has been on an upward trajectory, and the first impressions of the realme 12 5G further support that improvement. The interface appears responsive and intuitive, particularly regarding photography. The included camera software impresses with a seemingly rich selection of modes and tools. This suggests a commitment to giving users creative control over their image and video capture.
While there’s much to like about the realme 12 5G upon first impressions, several crucial areas still need thorough examination. Performance under intense workloads, full camera capabilities in different lighting situations, and long-term software stability will be the true indicators of whether this phone lives up to its initial promise.
