ON AI Appreciation Day, Coursera unveiled several new initiatives to address the escalating demand for Generative AI (GenAI) skills in the Philippines. The online learning platform reported a staggering 642% year-over-year increase in enrollments for GenAI courses in the country, with 13,000 Filipinos among the 2 million global learners.
Raghav Gupta, Coursera’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, emphasized the significance of this trend, stating, “The soaring demand for GenAI courses by Filipino learners on Coursera underscores their resilience and forward-thinking spirit needed to thrive in a world driven by rapid technological shifts.”
Coursera’s new offerings include seven fresh GenAI courses, specializations, and certificates from renowned partners like DeepLearning.AI, IIT Guwahati, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Additionally, the platform has enhanced eight entry-level Professional Certificates from IBM, Microsoft, and Meta with GenAI-specific updates.
To cater to businesses, Coursera is expanding its GenAI Academy with ‘GenAI for Teams,’ a catalog designed to equip teams with tailored GenAI skills across various functions like software development, data analysis, and marketing.
Coursera is also leveraging AI to enhance the learning experience. An upgraded Coursera Coach, now integrated as a sidebar within courses, will provide AI-powered guidance to learners, helping them clarify material, summarize key takeaways, practice for assessments, and align their learning with career goals.
Launched in January 2024, Coursera’s Generative AI Academy aims to equip professionals with essential AI skills.
The platform offers AI-powered translations for over 4,600 courses and 55 Professional Certificates in 21 languages, broadening accessibility. Additionally, an AI-powered Course Builder streamlines content creation for institutions and businesses, while a new suite of AI-powered tools strengthens assessment and grading processes, ensuring academic integrity.
By investing in AI-enhanced learning and nurturing an AI-skilled talent pool, Coursera believes the Philippines can harness the power of GenAI to empower its citizens and drive significant economic growth.
