A WAVE of technological integration is sweeping through the educational landscape, and educators are rising to meet the challenges and opportunities that come with it.

Instructure, the company behind Canvas LMS, is facilitating this transformation with CanvasCon Manila 2024, its second annual edtech conference in the country. The event will bring together educational experts, administrators, and thought leaders at the Grand Hyatt Manila on September 6, 2024, to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the field, with a special focus on generative AI, teacher efficiency, and accessibility.

The conference boasts an impressive lineup of speakers. Professor Martin Bean CBE, a distinguished figure in digital education and CEO of The Bean Centre, will share his insights on the transformative trends reshaping education. With his vast experience as Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University and The Open University, and as General Manager of Microsoft’s global Education Products Group, Bean will guide institutions on embracing innovation and disruption to create more engaging and sustainable learning experiences.

Returning as a keynote speaker is Ryan Lufkin, Vice President for Global Academic Strategy at Instructure. Building on his insightful talk from last year’s event, Lufkin will delve deeper into the evolving role of AI and its implications for the future of education.

Harrison Kelly, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Instructure, expressed his enthusiasm about the Philippines’ proactive embrace of technology-enriched learning. “We are excited about how educational institutions in the Philippines are adopting a technology-enriched learning approach and being proactive in facing the challenges that emerging technologies present to education,” he said. Kelly envisions CanvasCon as a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering learning, which can inspire not only local institutions but the entire region.

The conference will showcase educators and administrators from top universities across the Philippines, who will share their pioneering teaching practices and collaborative solutions.

Discussions will center on current trends and challenges in integrating technology into their curricula, while highlighting the significant benefits it brings to both teaching and learning.

A key focus of the conference will be the needs of Filipino students. Sessions will explore ways to enhance digital learning accessibility, effectively utilize generative AI, and promote skills-based learning. A panel discussion featuring representatives from the University of the East and Ateneo de Manila University will focus on tailoring strategies to address these specific student needs.

Instructure will also use the platform to showcase its latest AI-powered innovations, including Intelligent Insights. This new product, powered by AI and analytics, is designed to increase efficiency for both administrators and educators.

CanvasCon Manila 2024 promises to be more than just a conference; it’s a catalyst for change.

As Kelly eloquently puts it, “Embracing technology in education isn’t just about keeping pace with innovation. It is about unlocking new potentials for teaching and learning that were previously unimaginable.” With its focus on generative AI, teacher efficiency, and accessibility, CanvasCon aims to empower educators and institutions to navigate the exciting, yet challenging, future of education.
