Esports gamers given huge virtual playground

LOCAL mobile esports gamers now have a huge virtual playground to showcase their talents and skills that will serve as a venue to scout national team potentials with the official launch yesterday of the Smart GIGA Arena.

“Smart has been instrumental in bringing other forms of sports at the fingertips of Filipinos. I am referring to esports or mobile gaming. This does not come as a surprise because it also showcases the world-class skills of Filipinos,” Smart-PLDT President Al Panlilio said yesterday during the online launch of the all-in-one mobile platform for gamers.

“This is why we are excited to introduce a game-changing innovation that will level the playing the field, level up their game play, and simply win,” Panlilio, also the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas President, added of the platform conceived in partnership with global esports company LEET Entertainment.

“Through GIGA Arena, we are giving mobile gamers a venue to showcase their skills and talents, which many of them devote time and effort to hone. This is aligned with our commitment to enable our subscribers to pursue their passions and live the Giga Life,” Jane J. Basas, Smart SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business, said.

Open to all Smart and TNT customers, GIGA Arena lets users compete in daily, weekly, and monthly tournaments on gigaarena.smart for prestige and cash prizes. Registration starts on March 9.

For its launch, GIGA Arena features four of the most popular mobile games in the country: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Call of Duty Mobile, and Playe Unknown’s Battlegrounds Mobile.
