BUOYED by the success of the ongoing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang 5-on-5 Varsity Cup, the Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE) is bound to scale new heights.
League spokesperson Waiyip Chong said CCE is promoting esports among the youth, with NCAA players getting to play with scholarships.
“We’re trying to promote Esports among the youth,” Chong said yesterday in the online Philippine Sportswriters Association forum.
“The only difference here is that the students can play for their schools through scholarships,” he added.
The event that drew 10 school-based teams from the NCAA enters the playoffs today, with Letran taking on Emilio Aguinaldo College and Lyceum clashing with Mapua University in the upper bracket.
San Sebastian College collides with Perpetual Help, and Arellano battles College of St. Benilde in the lower bracket.
The finals will take place on Nov. 21, with the champion team, composed of NCAA cagers, receiving P100,000.
“This event is sanctioned by the schools, this way, we can regulate the student-players,” CCE finance head Stanley Lao said in the public sports program presented by San Miguel Corp., Milo, Amelie Hotel, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. “After four or five years, they can turn professionals.”
Lao maintained the best is yet to come for CCE.
