Simplifying cybersecurity makes it more responsive, expert says

SIMPLIFYING cybersecurity, making it easier for businesses to deploy and protect themselves through quickly deployable, task-specific solutions also makes it more responsive against attacks. This according to Vignesa Moorthy, Founder & CEO of ViewQwest.

According to Moorthy by collaborating with the best-of-breed experts and having an easily available, quickly accessible and cost-effective platform enterprises can then focus on rapidly digitalizing their business to adapt to the new and diversifying demands of customers and consumers.

“Protecting the edge and the end (users) is even more important now because there is an increasing vulnerability brought about by the increase in enterprise digital transformation.” Moorthy told Malaya Business Insight in an exclusive interview recently.

He explained that the faster the pace of digitalization, the more will cybercriminals also use technologies like AI to try to keep up without being stopped in their tracks. He said that AI is just one of the many ways cybercriminals try to infiltrate networks and systems and the battles are getting more and more sophisticated.

Networks become vulnerable because the pace of security may not be able to catch up with the pace of change. Moorthy gives as an example, how security policies may suddenly become archaic because of a new virus or ransomware that doesn’t even need to be clicked to open. He also pointed out how the hybrid work environment is “just a teenager” and building security around its edges is just one way to keep it safe. Remote desktop protocol, is so widespread and thus, is a very much abused entry point for cybercriminals. Yet very few companies seem to realize this.

Moorthy is proud of ViewQwest’s work in these spaces. Whether large enterprises with massive networks or those operating a hybrid workforce will require a high-security network that is fast, always reliable and flexible.

“Flexibility is what our private SASE is all about,” Moorthy explains.

SASE or Secure Access Service Edge is the convergence of network, security, and point-to-point solutions. In the case of ViewQwest, it is bringing in best-in-class providers Trend Micro and Palo Alto into a single unified Cloud-native service instead of building solutions by themselves.

“What ViewQuest has is the ability to design a security solution that works within and around the enterprise’s operations. Based on a manageable cost with a clear sense of the desired business outcomes, because we operate sharing and using the resources of our partners, we deliver private SASE at a cost that makes sense to businessmen,” Moorthy said explaining further how his company works within a collaborative framework, not just a solution supplier and a client relationship.

ViewQwest prides itself to be an industry innovator who refuses to be a one-size-fits-all service provider, acknowledging that every situation requires a tailor-fit solution if it is meant to be effective in the long run. The Philippines business landscape, in particular, can pose a challenge in many ways, from the quality of connectivity to the availability of service and even to the refusal of some individuals to upgrade to the current versions of software that they had become accustomed to.

“How can we provide the platform for the transformation of enterprises when we cannot network properly and understand their business needs? We are not a packaged solution, not a ‘just add water’ solution. We understand the business and develop the security solution that enables a company’s IT team to be agile and adaptable to the needs at that particular time,” Moorthy stresses.

As a CEO, Moorthy prefers to walk to the Terminal 3 departure area than be driven into the drop off by car. This attitude reflects his view of his company’s work with its partners in the Philippines.

“Sensible investments mean sensible actions, I’d rather walk to the departure area to scout the perimeter. Getting driven there is comfortable, but is it worth it, if you get stuck for 30 minutes in traffic just for a few kilometers?” the ViewQuest CEO detailed. This attitude seems to work in how ViewQwest helps major corporations transform their network and security infrastructure.

“We look at their operations to make sure there are no bottlenecks, and no shortcuts. This allows us to support the company’s business goals,” Moorthy shared.

ViewQuest’s deep understanding of the Philippine market and the general Southeast Asian market, comes from its experience from large-scale enterprise projects. This expert protection goes from network down to the brand, to every remote user, and even every device.

“My job is to ensure that we help our partners transform their network and security architecture with confidence. We are both a telco and a managed services provider, that gives us a big edge in creating flexible and specific, cost-effective, high-performance and reliable networking solutions integrated with our certified best-of-breed SASE capabilities, allowing us to create differentiated services that address unique security demands across our markets and customers,” Moorthy concluded.
