WITH the official declaration of the 2024 rainy season by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity and digital privacy company, has raised concerns about the increased risk of cyber threats in the Philippines. As Filipinos are driven indoors by the inclement weather, online activities like transactions and digital interactions are expected to surge.

“As more Filipinos turn to online platforms for transactions during the rainy season, the risk of cyber threats increases significantly,” warned Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky. He emphasized the importance of “robust cybersecurity measures to protect their personal and financial information from potential attacks.”

Online transactions, such as bill payments, online shopping, and banking activities, are common practices in the Philippines, offering convenience but also exposing users to potential cyber threats like phishing scams, fraudulent websites, and malware attacks.

To mitigate these risks, Kaspersky advises the public to take proactive cybersecurity measures. These include using strong, unique passwords for all online accounts, regularly updating passwords, employing a password manager, installing reliable anti-virus software, practicing safe browsing habits, and keeping software and operating systems updated.

In a timely move, Kaspersky recently launched Kaspersky Next in the Philippines, a next-generation product line designed to safeguard individuals and organizations against the evolving landscape of cyber threats. This comprehensive solution aims to provide enhanced protection against advanced threats, enabling organizations to detect, respond to, and neutralize cyberattacks effectively.
