Fortinet renews social responsibility commitment

CYBESECURITY expert Fortinet has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility through its 2023 Sustainability Report. The report details the company’s progress and efforts in four key pillars: addressing cyber risks to society, diversifying cybersecurity talent, respecting the environment, and promoting responsible business practices.

The firms joined the UN Global Compact in 2023, aligning with its principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The company was also recognized in the 2023 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the second consecutive year, highlighting its dedication to sustainable practices.

In 2023, Fortinet made significant strides in its sustainability initiatives. The company invested in green energy sources, aiming to power its headquarters and nearby sites with solar panels. It also plans to submit its decarbonization plan to the Science-Based Targets initiative for validation in 2024.

Fortinet continues to prioritize product energy efficiency, with its 2023 FortiGate appliances consuming 62 percent  less power on average compared to the previous generation. The company also explored and introduced biodegradable packaging for over 60 product models, contributing to a reduction of approximately 455 tons of CO2 emissions.

Addressing the cybersecurity skills gap remains a priority for Fortinet. As of 2023, the company has reached 43 percent of its goal to train 1 million people in cybersecurity by 2026. Efforts to expand access to free curricula and promote online safety awareness are ongoing.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) were also emphasized in 2023, with over 340 Fortinet leaders receiving training on fostering inclusion through an enhanced leadership development program.

Fortinet’s commitment to combatting cybercrime is evident in its expanding collaborations. In 2023, the company joined the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) and contributed to the arrest of 15 cybercriminal groups and the prevention of $40 million in financial losses through the INTERPOL Gateway program.

Ethical business practices and legal compliance are paramount for Fortinet. In 2023, all of the company’s distributors and key contract manufacturers completed Fortinet’s business ethics and compliance training. Additionally, Fortinet renewed and expanded its information security certifications and examinations, including ISO 27001, SOC 2, and HIPAA.
