EDGEPOINT Infrastructure, a leading telecommunications infrastructure entity based in the ASEAN region, has inaugurated its “Connectivity for Communities” initiative. This groundbreaking corporate social responsibility project is designed to extend essential connectivity resources to students within marginalized communities.
This initiative, unfolding across the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, underscores EdgePoint’s dedication to fostering equal opportunities for connectivity in regions most in need. Recognizing the importance of local insights into the unique needs of each community, EdgePoint has formed strategic alliances with grassroots organizations within these countries. These collaborations are crucial for crafting tailored programs aimed at not only enhancing connectivity but also advancing digital literacy among the youth.
Suresh Sidhu, the visionary CEO and Founder of EdgePoint Infrastructure, articulated the company’s mission: “Our objective is to empower the youth in these communities with every possible opportunity to realize their potential. Providing them with stable and quality connectivity is the initial step. However, equipping them with digital literacy skills is equally imperative. Our proficiency in connectivity, combined with the support from adept social organizations, propels us toward achieving this comprehensive goal. Our ongoing efforts to forge meaningful partnerships with local bodies are driven by a shared ambition to illuminate paths to a brighter future for the youth.”
In the Philippines, a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity has been established to create digital learning centers within two schools, aiming to provide uninterrupted internet access and necessary digital tools. These centers will be set up at the Southville 88 National High School in Rodriguez, Rizal, and Teresa National High School in Teresa, Rizal.
The initiative continues in Indonesia, where EdgePoint and Habitat for Humanity Indonesia have initiated projects at two Junior High Schools in Sentolo, Central Java, and the Junior High School (MTS) Maulana Ibrahim in Gresik, East Java. These projects focus on establishing digital libraries equipped with seamless internet connectivity.
In Malaysia, EdgePoint collaborates with Impact Malaysia, part of Impact Integrated, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This partnership leverages Impact Malaysia’s expertise to provide broadband connectivity and digital literacy enhancement programs in rural schools. Initiatives in Pahang and Sarawak include setting up resource centers complete with digital devices and revitalizing common areas for students, alongside implementing comprehensive digital literacy programs.
The “Connectivity for Communities” initiative has already benefited six schools, positively affecting over 5,000 students. With plans to extend this support to an additional 10 schools in 2024, EdgePoint continues to pave the way for digital inclusivity and literacy, ensuring that students in underserved areas are not left behind in the digital age.
