“WE are going to make history today,” Stephen Cheng Vice President of HONOR Philippines said as he addressed the crowd of 264 infotech journalists, content creators and influencers, 14 people more than their expected 250 participants—to literally drop HONOR’s latest X9c 5G smartphone—to test its durability and resistance to stress.

The new smartphone, set to be released on January 10, was simultaneously dropped in an orches-trated demonstration of the phone’s durability. It was officially recognized by Guinness World Rec-ords, highlights the X9c 5G’s exceptional build quality and resistance to damage.

“This record is a testament to HONOR’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and delivering exceptional value to our Filipino consumers. The HONOR X9c 5G embodies our dedica-tion to creating devices that can withstand the demands of modern life, empowering users to ex-plore their world without limits,” Cheng said immediately after the world record attempt was validat-ed.

The phone’s remarkable toughness is attributed to its all-angle triple defense feature, which earned it an SGS 5-Star rating for Drop Resistance. Exceeding industry standards, the phone can withstand drops of up to two meters, providing reassurance for users prone to accidental drops.

After the event, the media participants went on to six more activities to prove the X9c’s toughness. First it was again dropped, but this time from a height of 7 feet to onto a tiled floor. Next, it was dropped into pots of boiling water briefly. This was followed by being blasted with water from a high-pressure washer. Then a Tesla Model X was used to run over it, screen side up.

The X9c 5G survived all this because it has an IP65M rating, ensuring its resistance to water splash-es and brief submersion.

The last two activities involved using the phone like a ball in a passing game where it hit the floor numerous times and finally as part of a tug-of-war to try to break the phone in half. It survived every challenge.

“It is impressive, we tried everything to destroy it, boiling, water cannons, dropping it from 7 feet high,” says tech professional and content creator Michael Lance.
