IN A MOVE to revolutionize the transportation industry in the Philippines, PLDT Enterprise recently hosted a landmark IoT roadshow in Metro Manila. The event, attended by industry leaders, transport operators, and technology partners, served as a platform to showcase the transformative potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) in enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and improving passenger experiences.

At the heart of the showcase was PLDT Enterprise’s Smart IOT platform, the first all-in-one IoT-enabled platform in the Philippines. The platform empowers transport operators with real-time data and actionable insights, enabling them to make informed decisions, streamline operations, and optimize resource allocation. It offers a comprehensive suite of applications, including vehicle and delivery tracking, payment systems, smart meters, and remote device control, addressing a wide range of operational needs.

A key highlight of Smart IOT is its ability to manage thousands of devices in a single portal, providing full control, transparency, and visibility. This capability allows businesses to gain a holistic view of their operations, identify areas for improvement, and proactively address potential issues. By leveraging data-driven insights, businesses can make informed decisions, maintain constant connectivity, and set automation rules for efficient operations.

The event also featured demonstrations by technology partners, including Vectras and Filipay, showcasing their IoT applications for the transportation industry. Vectras highlighted their GPS tracker and mobile CCTV solutions, leveraging Smart’s robust 4G/LTE and 5G networks to provide comprehensive services. This collaboration underscores the potential for innovation and growth in the transportation sector, with advancements in connectivity and data analytics paving the way for new and improved services.

Filipay, on the other hand, presented their Automated Fare Collection System, emphasizing its impact on improving operational transparency and efficiency for public utility vehicles.

Fare collection has long been a challenge in the industry, with issues such as leakage and fraud impacting revenue and operational efficiency. The introduction of automated fare collection systems, powered by IoT technology, promises to address these challenges, ensuring greater accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in fare management.
