Will SBP enlist pros for Asia Cup action?

THE pro league players’ return to Gilas Pilipinas for the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers remains hanging in the air, for now.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has yet to submit its list of players to be called up for qualifiers set on February 18 to 22 likely to be played on a bubble in Clark.

“Wala pa (list of players in the pool),” Marcial said last Saturday on Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program hosted by former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

The amiable league chief said communication between the PBA, SBP, and players is among the keys in Gilas’ bid.

Gilas fielded an all-amateur squad in the second window last November in Manama, Bahrain.

Playing without a naturalized player, the Filipino dribblers, with coach Jong Uichico calling the shots, completed a two-game sweep of Thailand.
