TNT has managed to survive one tough foe despite below-par performances from its two main big men.
Troy Rosario and Poy Erram must snap out of their funk if the Tropang Giga hope to maintain equal footing with the Ginebra Kings in their PBA Philippine Cup finals at the Smart 5G-powered AUF Sports Arena in Angeles City.
TNT coach Bong Ravena pointed this out yesterday before the start of Game 2 of the best-of-seven series that Ginebra leads 1-0.
“Basta maka-contribute lang si Troy at si Poy inside, mas magtatagal sila sa loob then mas lalaki ang tsansa namin,” Ravena told Malaya-Business Insight. “Kailangan talaga presence nila sa loob.”
The dip in the duo’s performance started in the semifinals, where TNT managed to hurdle Phoenix Super LPG in part due to Jay Washington giving quality minutes while taking over the slot from Erram and main man Bobby Ray Parks Jr. playing the 4-spot in stretches.
That becomes more imperative when one throws in the fact the Kings have a daunting frontline led by Japeth Aguilar, Aljon Mariano, Prince Caperal and Arvin Tolentino, who all need to be prevented from scoring on higher percentage shots inside.
The likes of Stanley Pringle, LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson must also be attacks to the basket.
