ONE last ride.
San Sebastian College hardworking big man JM Calma chose not to join the PBA draft on March 14 and instead suit up for the squad for his final year.
That understandably elated Golden Stags coach Egay Macaraya.
“I’m very happy with JM’s decision to stay,” Macaraya told Malaya-Business Insight.
“When I recruited him, I promised to him and his family to give him the two most important things in life: His dream to play pro basketball and his studies,” he added.
The 6-foot-5 Calma averaged 8.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in the last NCAA cage wars where San Sebastian wound up with an 11-7 card to advance to the Final Four as the No. 4 team in 2019.
The Stags lost to eventual champion Letran in their stepladder semifinal battle.
Calma’s decision to stay should serve the Stags in good stead after gunner RK Ilagan joined the proceedings likely to be held online due to the restrictions posed by the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
