WHO will run the show for San Beda University now that ace playmaker Evan Nelle has moved to La Salle in the UAAP?
Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez does not know the answer, for now.
But the multi-tiled tactician is already on the lookout for Nelle’s replacement.
“Actually, the team is doing good. Everyone in the team is enrolled for the second semester. We just started practice last Jan. 8 and we are still adjusting,” Fernandez told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“Evan (Nelle) left big shoes to fill but the good thing is we still have seven months to make some adjustments before the NCAA starts,” he added.
The 5-foot-10 Nelle finished second to teammate Calvin Oftana in the MVP race in the last NCAA wars after he averaged 10.2 points and a league-best 6.7 assists per game in his second year with San Beda. He left the team last Jan. 21.
Unlike in the past years, the Lions are not joining the PBA D-League Aspirant’s Cup set to kick off on Feb. 13 but Fernandez said they will find a way to toughen up.
“We are not joining the D-League because we want our players to concentrate on their studies because the second semester is the eligibility semester for the NCAA,” explained Fernandez.
