SHOWCASING her driving prowess, Yuka Saso drove 270 yards last Saturday to rule the side event of the 51st Descente Ladies Tokai Classic and pocketed 500,000 yen (roughly P231,841) at the Shinminami Aichi Country Club Mihama course in Aichi, Japan.
Winning the driving title was a consolation for the 2018 Asian Games double gold medalist, who recovered from her 73 in the second round to close out with a five-under 67 for a total 54-hole tally of 208 in the 80 million competition (P37 million) tournament.
Behind by eight shots entering the final round, the Filipino-Japanese finished in a four-way tie for eighth, nine shots behind Japanese Ayako Furue, who checked in with a four-under 68. She took home 1.8 million yen (P869,000).
Furue actually finished in a tie at 201 with Hiroki Higashi, who also scored a final round 68, but prevailed in the playoff to pocket the top prize of 14,400,000 yen (P6.7 million).
