POC polls set Nov. 27

THE Philippine Olympic Committee election will proceed as scheduled in November after the POC Executive Board last Saturday agreed in a virtual session to conduct the polls under the local Olympic body’s present constitution and by-laws.

“We will be using the same election rules under the present charter because the two amendments (on age limit for candidates and the composition of the board) was not approved,” billiards and snooker secretary general Robert Mananquil, a member of the 13-man board, said.

Mananquil said they deferred approving the minutes of the July 20 and 24 online meetings because they were forwarded to them only by the POC secretariat late Friday so that he and the rest of the board were unable to review them properly.

He added the charter amendment of setting a 78-year-old age limit for candidates running for POC posts that was agreed upon in principle during a board caucus last month, and the reorganization of the board, remained pending.
