THE World Archery Philippines will conduct a local Olympic qualifying competition online today in various parts of the country, according to WAP president Atty. Clint Aranas.
“We will have this Olympic qualifying competition among our national team members who have been practicing in Dumaguete, Baguio and Manila so that they can continue practicing,” said Aranas, adding the event will be streamed live.
He said they were proceeding with the competition despite the fact that “everything is still hanging. We have yet to receive word from World Archery when the Olympic qualifiers will resume. We really want that but everything was suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Based on a news release on the World Archery website, the world Olympic qualifiers has been rescheduled to June 18 to 21 at a venue that still has to be confirmed.
A total of 128 slots – 64 men and 64 men – are up for grabs in the Olympic archery tournament.
The last two Pinoy archers who competed in the Olympic Games were Mark Javier and Rachel Anne Cabral, who saw action in the 2012 London Olympics.
