Greenlight for collegiate teams? Nah

COLLEGIATE squads returning to the gym before the year ends?

    Forget it.

It’s unlikely the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases will give the green light for the resumption of varsity training until January next year.

A very reliable Malaya-Business Insight source said the government’s task force in charge of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic will likely act on the Commission on Higher Education’s safety and health guidelines after the Christmas holidays due to the possible surge in virus infections.

“Hindi daw iyan aaksyunan ng IATF, not until the end of January (next year) kasi papakiramdaman pa nila iyong turnout ng Christmas season kung magkakaroon ng surge (in COVID-19 cases). Kung magkaroon iyan ng surge, hindi nila aaksyunan,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

“Sabi ko nga, mestizo masyado iyong ginawa ng CHED. Walang kabuhay-buhay ang ginawa nila.”

The CHED released the guidelines last Oct. 26 but has yet to get the go-signal from the IATF.

The source added the CHED should also seek to give collegiate leagues some sort of assurance that a tournament will be approved, not just training.
