A NURSE by profession, San Beda University coach Boyet Fernandez knows precaution matters more than practice and play amid the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s why he’s preaching patience to the Red Lions.
“I just told them (players) to be patient about it wala naman kaming magawa, hindi natin nakikita ang kalaban saka hindi lang naman kami ang nagkaganito, lahat naman,” Fernandez told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“Hintay na lang kami ng clearance from the government, at habang naghihintay continue na lang namin iyong individual trainings namin to be in shape,” he added.
San Beda was seeking to capture its fourth straight title and 23rd overall in 2019. The Lions were seemingly poised to do just that after they posted an 18-0 elimination round sweep and gained an outright finals berth.
San Beda, however, fell short against rival Letran in the Big Dance in three grueling games.
The 96th NCAA basketball tournament’s fate is hanging in the air, with the country’s oldest collegiate league set to hold online and hybrid events.
Fernandez is not one to lose hope.
