Clark City set to open gates to athletes April 15

BASES Conversion Development Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Vince Dizon has agreed to open the sports facilities at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac for the use of national athletes in athletics and swimming for actual training by April 15 for the 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games in November.

Dizon’s decision was contained in a request addressed to Health Secretary Duque last March 1 informing Duque that the BCDA will cease operations of the national government’s COVID-19 quarantine facilities within the NCC complex and the Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles, Pampanga by March 31.

“Please be informed that we are set to cease operations of the quarantine facilities located within the New Clark City and Clark Freeport by 31 March 2021,” worte Dizon, also a member of the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force in charge of the pandemic.

He added the BCDA medical team will coordinate with DOH Region 3 authorities to facilitate the transfer of remaining patients to other facilities before the end of the month so the NCC complex can be disinfected and sanitized properly before April 15.

“This will provide ample time for BCDA to prepare our facilities for the training bubble of our national athletes at the (NCC) Aquatics Center and Athletics Stadium which will start on 15 April 2021. The said training bubble shall be conducted in preparation for the 2021 Vietnam Southeast Asian Games,” Dizon said.
