MANILA Chooks TM left the Philippines for Qatar on Sunday ready to take on the world in the 2020 FIBA 3×3 World Tour Doha Masters.
Fil-Am forward Joshua Munzon, wingman Alvin Pasaol, and big men Troy Rike and Leonard Santillan arrived in Qatar Monday morning (Qatari time) and were given COVID-19 tests.
The team then went straight to the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel to undergo quarantine until the results come out.
The tournament, which offers a top prize of $40,000, will be held on Nov. 20-21 at the Al Gharafa Sports Complex.
Liman and UB of Serbia, Riga of Latvia, NY Harlem and Princeton of USA, Lausanne of Switzerland, Jeddah and Riyadh of Saudi Arabia, Kamakura and Yoyogi of Japan, Bielefeld of Germany, Utana of Lithuania, and home team Lusail are also competing in the level 10 tournament.
The 6-foot-3 Pasaol, a former University of the East standout, said the squad toughened up for the tournament via the recently-concluded Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup.
Carrying the banner of Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City, the quartet ruled the Chooks tourney.
“Born-ready kami. We’re confident dahil doon sa pinakita namin doon sa ‘Calambubble’ sobrang laki ng improvement ng team namin lalo na sa tiyaga,” Pasaol said.
“Hindi kami naiinip or nasisiraan man ng kumpyansa dahil malakas ang kalaban. Iyon iyong pinakamaganda sa amin ngayon kasi iyon nga parang kalmado lang, hindi masyadong nagpapanic, iyon iyong good side doon,” he added.
