MANILA Chooks TM’s campaign in the 2020 FIBA 3×3 Doha World Tour Masters ended in disappointing fashion last Friday.
The quartet of Fil-Am forward Joshua Munzon, wingman Alvin Pasaol, and big men Leonard Santillan and Troy Rike failed to advance to the knockout stage after losing two straight at the Al Gharafa Sports Complex.
In its opener, Manila Chooks TM absorbed a 15-22 defeat to world No. 1 Liman followed by a stunning 14-19 setback at the hands of unranked Lusail.
Munzon was understandably left pondering what went wrong in their bid to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Finals in Jeddah in December but added: “No excuses.”
The 6-foot-4 Munzon had his moments in the tourney that offers a top prize of $40,000, scoring nine points against Liman and 10 markers in their loss to Lusail.
His teammates, however, could not provide the much-needed help.
Pasaol struggled in both games with six points, while Santillan could only come up with a total of four in two games.
Rike, also a Fil-Am, got hurt after a collision with Lusail’s Souley Ndour, and had two points overall.
The Senegalese Ndour had 10 points and seven rebounds where Manila fell behind 10-16 late to the chagrin of a big Filipino crowd at the venue.
