The Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) Philippines 2019 recently granted special recognitions to budding innovators during its ceremony held at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.
The competition was first launched in 2008 as the Philippine edition of the premier Asia Young Designer Award (AYDA) with the common goal to motivate interior design and architecture students alike to incorporate both creativity and innovation in their designs. It likewise serves as a venue for the aspirants to hone their skills and establish connections with key industry players and fellows.
For the Interior Design Category, San Carlos University in Cebu City student Abigail Florence Taghoy bagged Gold, while De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts (SDA) Interior Design student Clarice Limsui, who was trained by artist-educator and Interior Designer Candice Arboleda, earned Silver.
Michael Gabriel Vasquez and Erika Mari Ordinario took home the Best Color Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award, respectively. Both Vasquez and Ordinario, Benilde Interior Design Program students, were mentored by artist-educator and Interior Designer Lea Eljean Gatpandan.
Bulacan State University in Malolos, Bulacan student John Carlo de Jesus secured the Gold Award for the Architecture Category, followed by John Harold Siblag of St. Mary’s University of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, who won Silver.
The Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) Philippines recognized DLS-CSB as the Best Supporting College, as an active participant of the summit for four years. The College finished the competition with one gold, three finalists and a Best Color Award in 2016.
Two institutions fielded two finalists in 2017 while two Benildeans made it to the finals and the College once again took home special titles including the Green Innovation Awards and the People’s Choice Awards in 2018.
The panel of judges was comprised of distinguished industry experts with support from the country’s leading professional organizations namely the United Architects of the Philippines , Council of Deans and Heads of Architecture Schools in the Philippines, Philippine Institute of Interior Designers and the Council of Interior Design Educators.
