Serving up a luxurious resort experience in the north


    Integrated hotel and resorts have risen in number throughout the years as more affluent guests come to the Philippines to spend their vacation. However, these integrated resorts are all located in Metro Manila.

    For Daesik Han, Widus Group president and chief executive officer, this was an opportunity to tap into a market that is steadily growing.

    “I believe that there is an untapped market here in Clark. I’m not so sure if it will be as big as in Manila, but it will definitely be bigger than what it currently is. The operation of the new Clark International Airport will make Clark City more accessible to foreign guests, especially those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila,” Han said.

    Han is no stranger to the hotel and resort business, having put up Widus Hotel and Casino in Clark back in 2008. Originally a hotel, it added a casino a year later and another tower of rooms in 2012.

    Han also added the Marriot brand to its portfolio with the opening of the Clark Marriott Hotel in 2018 and is completing the Accor group’s Swissotel Hotel and Resort by the end of this year.

    Han’s partnership with two of the world’s largest hospitality companies opened doors to an ambitious project that would bring luxury to New Clark City (NCC) and revitalize its current complex.

    With that in mind, the Widus Group has launched its new brand, Hann Resorts, a luxury lifestyle brand that seeks to offer guests an all-new integrated resort experience.

    “Our vision is to raise the concept of play into a lifestyle that people would want to discover through world-class experiences,” Han said. “Clark is already drawing a lot of tourists and investors to the area. We hope that an integrated lifestyle and leisure resort brand will further attract people and turn both Clark and (NCC) into a bustling center for recreation and development.”

    Hann Resorts brings the idea of a “millionaire’s playground” to life by elevating the experience of play with a carefully curated mix of gaming, golf, nature and outdoors, entertainment and hospitality activities and experiences within an ultra luxe integrated resort environment.

    The new brand will feature two developments: The Hann Casino Resort and the Hann Luxe Lifestyle Resort.

    The Hann Casino Resort will be the new name for the existing Widus development in Clark with the completion of the Swissotel project and the conversion of Widus Hotel and Casino into Mercure Hotel after renovations are completed in 2022.

    Meanwhile, the Hann Luxe Lifestyle Resort sub-brand will be located in NCC on a sprawling 450-hectare property leased from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority. This will be the home for Accor’s luxury brands Banyan Tree Hotel and the Angsana Hotel.

    Banyan Tree Hotel is an award-winning luxury hospitality brand that pioneered the all-villa concept in hotel resorts. Designed as a sanctuary for the senses, it will offer pool villas and a tropical garden spa – a welcome respite for weary travelers, intertwining local chic and a vibrant fun-filled atmosphere.

    Angsana Hotel offers an amazing destination getaway with its wide range of recreational activities that are perfect for families or groups of friends.

    The next phase will include the Westin Hotel and The Luxury Collection by Marriott International. The Westin Hotels and Resorts brand is recognized as a leader in wellness with signature programs including the RunWestin run map and running concierge that empower guests to Move Well, Eat Well and Sleep Well while traveling.

    The Luxury Collection is comprised of world-renowned hotels and resorts offering unique, authentic experiences that evoke lasting and treasured memories.

    Wrapping around these hotel and resort brands are three golf courses, all of which are designed by industry heavyweights. The first golf course will be designed by Nicklaus Design, the world-renowned leader in golf course design and innovations; the second by South Korean professional golfer KJ Choi who is acclaimed with various tournament wins and is the most successful golfer in all of Asia; while the third golf course will be the Sir Nick Faldo Signature Golf Course, designed and named after the pro English golfer who is known for his dedication to the game and was ranked as number one in his era.

    “I want to create a market and be a dominant player there. If you’re a gambler and you want to enjoy, you want to experience nature and golf, then the Hann Luxe Lifestyle Resort is a one-stop shop. I will be the only one offering this and my market will not be limited to just the Philippines. I can bring in people who go to Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau here because this will be the only integrated resort and casino that will have a world-class golf course,” Han said.
