ImagineLaw recognized for road safety efforts
His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent recently awarded the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award to ImagineLaw, a non-profit, public interest law organization based in Manila, Philippines, for its work on improving speed limit setting and enforcement in the Philippines.
For over 30 years, the Award has been given to groups and individuals with outstanding achievements and innovations that improve road safety around the world.
This year, ImagineLaw received the Award in recognition of its policy advocacy efforts that led to the issuance of Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2018-001 by the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. The Circular guides local government units in classifying roads and setting appropriate speed limits, a mandate of cities and municipalities under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
To date, ImagineLaw has conducted capacity-building trainings on speed limit setting for over 500 councilors from different cities and municipalities nationwide. ImagineLaw has also supported local governments in drafting local road safety policies, leading to the enactment of at least 19 speed limit ordinances and four comprehensive local road safety codes, with more speed limit ordinances underway.
ImagineLaw also trained law enforcers nationwide on best practice speed enforcement, in partnership with the Department of Transportation and Land Transportation Office and with support from the Global Road Safety Partnership and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) under the UN Road Safety Fund.
“While we are deeply honored to be recognized for our efforts, the award is a testament to how civil society organizations and government agencies can and do come together to make our road safety laws work for the people. The award inspires us to scale up our work in making Philippine roads safer for all,” said ImagineLaw’s Executive Director Sophia Monica San Luis.
Hyundai’s MerrygaLOW promo
For many Filipinos, Christmas is marked by gatherings and gift-giving. But while getting together with family and friends this season is hindered, there is always a way to continue the tradition of sharing your blessings.
Why not drive to personally deliver your gifts to family and friends?
If you’re worried about fuel costs and driving comfort, fret not because the Hyundai Accent can take you to multiple destinations efficiently and in the safe confines of your own ride.
That’s because the Accent in both gas and diesel variants has become synonymous with fuel-efficiency. The top-of-the-line 1.6-liter CRDi diesel engine variant mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission delivers power at 128 ps @ 4,000 rpm and torque at 26.5kg-m @ 1,500-3,000 rpm. The 1.4 MPi gas variant, meanwhile, is capable of 100 ps @ 6,000 rpm maximum power and 13.5 kg-m @ 4,000 rpm maximum torque.
Based on internal tests, the Hyundai Accent can take you 29.4 kilometers on a single liter–that’s like driving the whole stretch of EDSA from SM MOA to Bonifacio Monument with roughly six kilometers to spare using only a liter of fuel.
And finally, this season, more car-buying Filipinos looking for value and practicality can get their hands on the ACCENT with Hyundai’s MerrygaLOW Christmas promo, which offers more savings with as much as P160,000 discount on this best-seller.
Don’t miss the biggest sale of the season. For more information, head over to your nearest Hyundai dealership or visit bit.ly/MerrygaLOW.
