Zamboanga City cop shot dead by drag racers


    A MEMBER of the Zamboanga City Police Station was shot dead by a motorcycle rider that he and another cop tried to accost for engaging in drag racing in Barangay Camino Nuevo, Zamboanga City last Sunday night.

    Belated reports reaching Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, Police Regional Office 9 (Western Mindanao) director, identified the fatality as Pat. Pedro Umpad.

    Reports said Umpad and his partner, Pat. Adamer Pangandan, responded to a complaint that several persons were into drag racing at Gov. Vitaliano Agan Ave. in Barangay Camino Nuevo.

    Umpad was shot several times by the one of the two suspects on a motorcycle as he alighted from the police car he was driving to accost the racers. Pangandan was questioning a group of motorcycle riders when the shooting happened.

    Pandangan fired back but the suspects managed to escape.

    Umpad was rushed to the nearest hospital but died while undergoing treatment. Quidilla ordered his men to hunt down the gunmen.
