POLICE have filed charges against seven suspects, one of them in custody, in the kidnapping of a namesake of PBA player James Yap in Quezon City last December 31.

AKG spokesman Maj. Ronaldo Lumactod yesterday said the suspects were charged by the AKG with the crime of kidnapping with serious illegal detention before the Department of Justice last Friday.

One of the suspects, identified as Ma. Rachel Erica Gonzales, is the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping of Yap, who was seized while riding his bike in Barangay Mariana, New Manila, in Quezon City on the afternoon of December 31.

Also charged were Jhon Paolo Gonzalez, alias Pao; one alias Badboy, one alias Mate, one alias Boy, one alias Da, and one alias Ren.

The suspects brought the victim to a safehouse and demanded a ransom of P200 million from his family that was later lowered to P1.5 million. The kidnapping was reported by the family of Yap to AKG on January 1.

The victim was released in Ermita, Manila on the afternoon of January 5, shortly after the suspects received the ransom from the victim’s father, James, on a highway in Barangay Malamig in Bustos, Bulacan.
