TWO New People’s Army rebels and a government soldier were killed in a clash in Pinabacdao town in Samar on Wednesday, the military reported yesterday.
The clash was the result of information about the presence of 10 communist rebels extorting from the residents of Barangay Canlobo, said the Army’s 8th Infantry Division based in Samar.
Capt. Reynaldo Aragones, 8th ID spokesman, said troops from the 46th Infantry Battalion who were deployed to the barangay encountered the rebel group at around 8:10 a.m.
After a 25-minute firefight, the rebels withdrew, leaving behind the remains of their two still unidentified comrades, said Aragones.
Also recovered at the at the scene were an M16A1 rifle, a bandolier with magazines, a backpack, electrical wires, solar panels, and two cellphones left behind by the rebels.
