ALERT Customs officials at Clark foiled an attempt to smuggle into the country more than one kilo of suspected shabu worth P6.5 million last Nov. 27.

The shabu was contained in an aquarium filter that came from the Czech Republic. Another shipment of marijuana weighing 30ml was also intercepted last Dec. 3.

Two women were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal on Tuesday night, with authorities seizing suspected shabu worth P5.8 million.

Col. Renato Alba, Rizal PNP provincial director, identified the two as Ana Dimapinto, 28; and Naida Sarip, 27.

Meanwhile, PNP and NBI operatives arrested a Korean during a raid of a shabu laboratory in Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.

The Korean was identified as Jungkil Kim, alias Joseph, 57, a resident of Tower 3 Grass Residence on Nueva Viscaya St. in Barangay Sto. Cristo, Quezon City.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said a composite team of PNP and NBI personnel swooped down on the residence of Kim around 3 p.m. armed with a search warrant.

Recovered at the residence were several laboratory instruments, chemicals, precursors and 11 packs of undetermined quantity of white crystalline substance.

Quoting National Capital Region Police chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, Banac said “the suspect is most likely a chemist and his house was tagged as an alleged drug kitchen laboratory.” – Christian Oineza and Victor Reyes
