A POLICE captain and a sergeant were arrested by operatives of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group for utilizing an inmate as a driver and for being engaged in illegal cockfighting in separate operations in Bulacan and Pangasinan on Saturday.

The two were identified as Capt. Wilfredo Dizon Jr., the deputy chief of the Norzagaray police station in Bulacan; and Staff Sgt. Sherwin Salazar, detailed with the Pangasinan provincial police office.

Dizon was nabbed at around 3:25 p.m. in front of the Norzagay police station aboard his van that was being driven by Resty Cabacang, who is facing charges of serious physical injuries and is supposed to be in detention.

IMEG chief Ronald Lee described Dizon’s infraction as a “grave offense which will not be tolerated by the PNP leadership.” He said he would recommend the conduct of pre-charge investigation for grave misconduct.

Police said Dizon, along with 10 other cops, had been previously charged with kidnapping and robbery-in-band before the Department of Justice in June 2018 while he was still assigned with the San Rafael police station, also in Bulacan.
