THE official Instagram account of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) had been hacked and is now temporary locked out, an administration communications official said yesterday.
Communications Assistant Secretary for Global Media and Public Affairs JV Arcena said the hacking incident is now being investigated by authorities and the PCOO has made a formal complaint with Facebook to address the incident.
“We decry the malicious act by unknown individuals who hacked the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s Instagram Page, with the handle @pcoogov. We are now looking into this matter and have coordinated with Facebook to resolve it immediately,” Arcena said.
The hacked PCOO Instagram page showed it has 18,900 followers, is following seven accounts and has two posts – about a camel and a camel festival. It also bore a camel with Arabic letters in its profile picture.
Prior to the hacking incident, the account had 18,900 followers, following more than 20 accounts and made more than 900 posts about President Duterte and his activities.
“The account has been locked by Facebook’s team so that hackers will no longer be able to use the account. In the meantime, we ask our followers to disregard any present and future activities on our Instagram page, until such time that the matter is resolved,” Arcena said.
