PRESIDENT Duterte on Tuesday night threatened to shut down J&T Express as he ordered an investigation into growing complaints against the delivery courier firm following reports of alleged mishandling of cargo and packages.
In a public address aired live late Tuesday night, the President warned that he would shut down the company if the complaints are proven true.
Duterte said he has directed the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the complaints against the company, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue to look into the finance standing of the courier firm.
He said he has been receiving a lot of complaints, especially about missing parcels and delivered cargoes that are empty, and wants authorities to look into it.
“May isa dito na madalas akong makatanggap ng complaint. You better shape up but I’d like you to know that I am ordering now because the CIDG is listening and the NBI to investigate you at ang BIR to look into your finances (I have been receiving complaints about this. You better shape up. But I’d like you to know that I am now ordering, because the CIDG is listening, and the NBI to investigate you and the BIR to look into your finances),” he said referring to J&T.
Prior to Duterte’s directive, a video went viral on social media showing alleged employees of J&T carelessly throwing packages and parcels into a truck. The items were dumped on the ground and some of the employees were also not wearing masks while others were even shirtless.
J&T said it is verifying the video and investigating the incident.
“Iyong mga padala nawawala tapos pagdating, pinapalitan. Wala ng laman. I am not condemning you now. I am not also insinuating that you are liable or guilty of doing it. It would depend greatly on what is the result of the investigation… Itong J&T, iyung nakita niyo sa TV (The packages get lost and when it arrives, the contents are different, or it is already empty. I am not condemning you now. I am not also insinuating that you are liable or guilty of doing it. It would depend greatly on what is the result of the investigation…
This J&T, the one you saw on TV),” the President said.
The President urged those who have complaints against the company to report to the nearest police station to help in the investigation.
Duterte said he would not hesitate to shut down the company if it is found liable.
