SEN. Manny Pacquiao has filed a bill seeking to increase the monthly hazard pay of military personnel in conflict areas to P20,000, 36 times greater than the current P540.
Senate Bill No. 970 also sought to increase to P10,000 the hazard pay for civilian doctors and nurses under the Armed Forces of the Philippines Memorial Medical Center, as well as those deployed in the field.
“Personnel of AFP are the country’s frontlines in dealing with apprehensions in the borders and tensions with terrorist and extremist groups. The AFP defends our country despite the exposure to danger and possibly risking their lives,” Pacquiao said in a statement yesterday.
“It’s only appropriate to compensate those who risk their lives to serve and protect our country,” he added.
The bill would require the allocations to be provided by the General Appropriations Act.
