Motorcycle backrider dies in accident in Marikina

A motorcycle backrider died while the driver was wounded when their vehicle slammed into a wooden electric post in Marikina on Tuesday night.

Col. Restituto Arcangel, local police chief, said Daniel Moreno, 27, died on the spot from severe head and body. The driver, Rustom Cantonia, 27, is under observation at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.

Investigation showed the victims were traveling westbound on St. Domitilla St. in Provident Village, Barangay Tañong when Cantonia lost control of the motorcycle at about 10:40 p.m. The motorcycle first hit a gutter before crashing into a wooden electric post.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man lost ₱1.5 million in assorted jewelry and valuables to a burglar in San Juan before dawn Tuesday.

Col. Jaime Santos, city police head, said the victim, Shai Angsa, of North Greenhills, Barangay Greenhills reported the heist at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

CCTV footage showed a man wearing a jacket and denims, with blond hair, and surgical mask covering his face climbing the terrace of Angsa’s house at around 3 a.m.

Angsa, who was not at home at that time, said when he arrived his place had been ransacked.

Police theorized the burglar must have been observing the place as well as the victim before committing the heist.
