A total of 1,200 traffic constables will be deployed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in areas where organized groups are set to conduct rallies during the July 27 fifth State of the Nation address of President Duterte at the Batasang Pambansa.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said the agency and National Capital Region Police Office have been conducting dialogues with organized groups so that proper health protocols would be observed in their protest actions.
“(The) MMDA (is out to) ensure that these various groups will adhere to health protocols from and to the areas where they are going to hold their programs on that day,” Pialago said, adding the constables to be deployed will come from the MMDA augmentation personnel, cycle units, mobile patrol, and district enforcers.
Pialago also encourage the militant groups that will use mini buses and shuttle services to observe the guidelines being implemented by the transportation department, such as checking the body temperature of each passenger and wearing of face masks. – Noel Talacay
