A MAGNITUDE 6 earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs said it expects aftershocks and damage from the quake, which is tectonic in origin.
The quake occurred at around 6:37 a.m., with the epicenter located some 29 km southeast of San Agustin town in Surigao del Sur with a depth of 33 km.
The tremor was felt at Intesity V in Bislig City in Surigao del Sur and in Rosario town in Agusan del Sur.
Tandag City and Bayabas town, both in Surigao Del Sur felt the quake at Intensity IV.
Intensity III was felt in Cagayan de Oro City and in the towns of Tagaloan, Villanueva, and Balingasag, all in Misamis Oriental.
El Salvador City and Initao, Luagit and Manticao in Misamis Oriental; Virac town in Catanduanes felt it at Intensity II while Iligan City in Lanao del Norte felt it at Intensity I.
Office of Civil Defense-Caraga information officer Aizy Lyn Paglinawan said there were no damages so far reported due to the quake.
Paglinawan said some residents in Hinatuan town in Surigao del Sur evacuated from their residents for fear of a tsunami.
