THE Judicial and Bar Council will start interviewing today the candidates vying for the post left vacant by Justice Diosdado Peralta who was appointed chief justice last October.
Of the 15 aspirants, the JBC said Court of Appeals Associate Justices Ramon Cruz and Eduardo Peralta will be the first to be interviewed while CA Associate Justices Samuel Gaerlan, Jhosep Lopez, Pablito Perez and Maria Filomena Singh as well as Anti-Red Tape Authority Deputy Director General Ernesto Perez are set to face the body on December 18.
The other aspirants – Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez and CA Justices Oscar Badelles, Manuel Barrios, Ramon Bato Jr., Ramon Garcia, Apolinario Bruselas Jr., and Ricardo Rosario – will no longer faced the JBC since their previous interviews are still valid.
The JBC is the body tasked by the Constitution to vet and screen nominees to the judiciary.
Once the JBC submits to President Duterte its nominees to the vacant post, the President has 90 days from October 23, 2019 to appoint Peralta’s replacement.
