THE Judicial and Bar Council has submitted seven nominees to Malacanang, from which President Duterte will pick the replacement of retiring Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Reyes Jr.
Reyes is set to retire on September 18 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70. He was appointed to the SC in 2018.
The seven nominees are Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez and Court of Appeals Associate Justices Maria Filomena Singh, Ricardo De Rivera Rosario,Ramon Cruz, Japar Dimaampao, Eudardo Peralta Jr., and Jhosep Lopez.
Duterte has 90 days to appoint Reyes’ replacement.
Majority of the SC justices are now appointees of Duterte, except for Justices Marvic Leonen, Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, and Estela Perlas Bernabe, who were appointed by former president Benigno Aquino III.
