Inside job eyed in Sta. Cruz robbery that left cop dead

THE Manila Police District yesterday raised the possibility that the robbery incident last Saturday in Sta. Cruz that led to the death of a police officer was an inside job.

MPD chief Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda raised the inside job angle a day after Manila Mayor Isko Moreno directed the police to bring the killers of Executive M/Sgt. Roel Candido to justice.

“I think they might have a pointman in the area. We cannot discount the possibility of an inside job,” Miranda said.

He said the suspects cased the area based on footage taken by close circuit television cameras but declined to provide additional details since an investigation is going on.

Candido was shot by three suspects while he was about to come to the rescue of the occupants of a Toyota Innova being robbed on Florentino Torres St. in Sta. Cruz last Saturday afternoon.

After killing Candido, the suspects fled, taking with them the cop’s service pistol and about P2 million in cash from the victims identified as Catherine King, Vinsia Canete and Sulficio Pisngot.

King, according to the police, is the owner of a jewelry shop in Sta. Cruz. She and her companions were injured in the attack but are now in stable condition.
