THE House leadership yesterday decided to formally open next week the consideration of 11 bills seeking to renew for another 25 years the legislative franchise of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., a week after President Duterte accepted the television giant’s apology.
Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said the House will begin tackling the bills on March 10, a day before Congress goes on recess. Sessions will resume on May 4.
He earlier said the House can begin tackling the bills only in August.
“I’d just like to announce that chairman (Palawan Rep. Franz Alvarez), chair of the committee on legislative franchise, released a notice today (Wednesday) that on March 10, 2020, in the Belmonte Hall, South Wing Annex, we will be taking up the 11 bills concerning the ABS-CBN Corporation renewal of franchise,” he told a press conference.
