THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Thursday clarified its COVID-19 assistance package covers only medical expenses of persons under monitoring (PUMs), persons under investigation (PUIs), and those under quarantine or have tested positive for the deadly disease confined in hospitals.

PhilHealth president Ricardo Morales, during the “Laging Handa” public briefing, said requirements for the medical claims will be processed by accredited hospitals.

Morales said hospital bills of all covered patients will be charged to the universal health care insurance.

Morales said those who underwent home treatment or quarantine are not covered by the PhilHealth assistance.

All those hospitalized will be covered. Those who are confined in their homes, on home quarantine will not be covered because we do not know the medicines they took or the process that they underwent. Only those confined at the hospital will be covered by PhilHealth because the medicines and procedure taken by the patients are prescribed),” he said.

Morales said PhilHealth has released of P1.6 billion to help accredited hospitals in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
