GERMANY intends to hire one thousand healthcare workers from the Philippines via the government-to-government labor pact, according to Philippine Labor Attaché to Germany Delmer Cruz.
“Based on our latest meeting with our German counterparts, they told us that their target for 2021 deployment would be at least 1,000 healthcare workers,” Cruz said in an online briefing.
Germany will do the hiring under its Triple Win program, a program that helps address the needs of Germany’s healthcare sector while providing job opportunities for participating countries, like the Philippines.
Cruz said the number does not include those looking to be deployed through local private recruitment agencies.
“If ever there are other available employment opportunities, the number may still rise,” he said.
Cruz said Germany has a huge demand for healthcare workers, especially amid the pandemic. Germany Health Minister Jens Spahn recently said their people must brace for a few hard weeks amid the onset of the third wave of COVID-19 cases.
“The total HCW demand of Germany, at the moment, is around 50,000. But this is not only for the Philippines, but in general, including locals and those from other nations,” said Cruz.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration had imposed an annual 5,000 deployment cap for healthcare workers amid the pandemic.
