PRESIDENT Duterte on Thursday named peace adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. as chief implementer of the country’s national policy against the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“He (Galvez) was designated as chief implementer of the IATF against COVID-19,” Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said in a message sent to media.
A memorandum dated March 24 assigned Galvez to oversee the implementation of the National Action Plan on COVID-19 that was approved in principle by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) on Wednesday.
The NAP is a by-product of the Bayanihan Act which was signed into law by the President on Tuesday. The new law gave Duterte special powers in the implementation of preventive measures against COVID-19.
Medialdea said Galvez shall “ensure the strict compliance and adherence of everyone (public and private sector) to the guidelines and protocols issued by the IATF”.
Galvez is also tasked to protect and promote the safety and welfare of the public at all times, as well as ensure the efficient and expeditious distribution of government assistance to the public, with particular attention to the poor.
