THE brief medical furlough granted in 2018 to former Ozamis City vice mayor Nova Parojinog, who is detained in Camp Crame for drug charges, had a legitimate leave of court, the PNP told a Quezon City judge yesterday.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac told Quezon City Judge Mitushealla Casiño that Parojinog’s trip to a dental clinic in Pasig was authorized by QC Judge Edgar Bellosillo.

Parojinog is facing drugs and illegal possession of firearms charges before the sala of Casiño.

She and one of his brothers, Reynaldo Jr., were arrested by police during a raid of their residence in Ozamiz City in July 2017. The operation also resulted in the death of 15 members of the Parojinog family, including her father, former city mayor Reynaldo Sr.

On the other hand, Parojinog has another drug case pending before the sala of Bellosillo.

Casiño had recently ordered the PNP to explain why Parojinog was allowed to leave the PNP Custodial Center in November 2018 without her consent.

“After thorough examination of documents and official reports, it became clear that the medical furlough of detainee Parojinog on November 12, 2018 had the express permission of the court,” Banac said.

He said policemen escorted Parojinog to the clinic of Dr. Louisse Orasa at Room 801 of the Medical City hospital in Pasig City to undergo panoramic dental X-ray based on Bellosillo’s order. He said the procedure was done at the detainee’s own expense.

Parojinog and her escorts left the PNP Custodial Center at around 8:50 am and arrived at the clinic around 9:40 am. After the procedure, Banac said Parojinog was back at the PNP detention cell at around 10 a.m.

“As a matter of procedure, the chief of the Custodial Service Unit rendered a written report to RTC Branch 95 (of Bellosillo) on November 13, 2018 detailing compliance to the order of the court,” Banac said.

“The PNP high command is satisfied with the explanation of the PNP Custodial Center officials on the circumstances surrounding the medical furlough of PUPC (person under police custody) Nova Parojinog on November 12, 2018,” he added.

Bellosillo was the same judge who Parojinog a furlough to visit her brother who is detained at the Metro Manila District Jail in Taguig City on December 23 last year.
