Duterte to lead destruction of illegal drugs in Cavite

PRESIDENT Duterte is scheduled to lead the destruction of confiscated illegal drugs in Cavite this Thursday, which the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said will be a strong message on the government’s determination in the war against drugs.

“It shows he’s on top of the campaign, which is one of his flagship programs,” PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon said.

Carreon said this is the first time the President will be leading the destruction of confiscated drugs since he assumed the presidency in 2016.

“It sends a strong message. He ordered it (war on drugs) and he’s leading the incineration (of the confiscated drugs),” said Carreon.

Carreon could not immediately say the exact quantity of the illegal drugs due to be destroyed at the Integrated Waste Management in Trece Martires City, saying officials of the Laboratory Service of PDEA are still in the process of conducting inventory.

PDEA burned confiscated drugs in Trece Martires City last October 15 when 1.5 tons of assorted illegal substance, worth P9.3 billion, was destroyed.

Earlier last October, the President ordered law enforcement agencies to destroy all recovered drugs to prevent them from being recycled or resold in the illegal drugs market.

Two men were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Binangonan, Rizal on Monday, with P30,600 worth of suspected dangerous drugs seized.

Col. Joseph Arguelles, Rizal PNP provincial director, identified the two as Eddie Marcelo and Mark Anthony Cube, residents of Barangay Bilibiran. – With Christian Oineza
