Duterte, Bolkiah meet in Malacañang


    PRESIDENT Duterte and Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah discussed issues of mutual concerns between the Philippines and Brunei during their bilateral meeting in Malacanang late Saturday.

    Malacanang, in a press statement, did not elaborate about the results of the discussions while Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and concurrent presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said he was not present during the meeting and could not share anything about what transpired in the discussions.

    “During their meeting, President Duterte raised several issues confronting Brunei and the Philippines as well as the Asian region,” the statement said.

    Bolkiah arrived in the country for an overnight visit on Saturday and attended the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Philippine Arena. Bolkiah lent support to the Brunei delegation which included his nephew and other members of the Brunei royal family.

    Present during the meeting were Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Maj. Gen. Dato Hajji Aminuddin Pehin Dato Haji Abidin, and Brunei Ambassador to the Philippines Hajah Johariah Haji Wahab while the Philippines was represented by Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, and Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, among others.
