THE Department of Health yesterday expressed strong support for Secretary Francisco Duque III amid renewed calls for his resignation due to his alleged faulty handling of the pandemic.
In a brief statement, the DOH said it remains behind Duque in leading the national government’s response to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
“The entire DOH fully supports Secretary Francisco Duque III in handling the COVID-19 pandemic,” the DOH said.”Despite criticism, the DOH is still working hard to serve our countrymen and ending the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“President Rodrigo Duterte has also expressed his continuing support for the Secretary of Health even with the calls for resignation,” the DOH said.
Among those who has called for the resignation of Duque is Sen. Panfilo Lacson, who said Filipinos cannot feel that someone is in charge in the fight against the surging cases of the deadly virus.
At least 14 senators passed a resolution in April 2020 urging Duque to vacate his position for his failed leadership amid the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Diocese of Novaliches has launched an online system, or hotline, that will enable priests to pray over those suffering from the virus.
“We thought of having this hotline, where COVID-19 patients can call and get prayed over by a priest either by phone or messenger,” Novaliches Diocese- Communication Ministry head Fr. Luciano Felloni said.
Felloni said their “E-Pray for COVID-19 patients” is necessary during these times given the strict curfew and quarantine measures in place, especially in Metro Manila.
