THE Philippine Embassy in Turkey yesterday said it is still checking if Filipinos were among the casualties in the 6.8 earthquake that struck the province of Elazig last Friday that killed 29 and injured 1,200 others.
Ambassador Raul Hernandez said they are coordinating with local Turkish authorities on the matter.
“The Philippine Embassy in Ankara is checking if any Filipinos got hurt in the disaster. Ingat po mga kababayan (I urge all Filipinos to be careful),”Hernandez said in a statement.
At the same time, the envoy offered prayers to the victims and their loved ones.
“Our prayers and thoughts go to those who were injured and to those who lost their loved ones in the earthquake in Elazig province,” Hernandez said.
Last Friday’s quake was also felt in Iran, Lebanon and Syria.
There are more than 3,500 Filipinos living and working in Turkey though Hernandez did not say how many of those are living in Elazig province. – Ashzel Hachero
